This post is of a project I have always wanted to do. I love the Biedermeier and Empire look where the grain of the wood is veneered over the entire piece, moldings and all. The challenge of this piece is, it's an oval.

Next project on the list was a pair of bases for a male and female sculptures for the Debate Chamber.

We wanted them to be similar to the Alter base, but these are a bit smaller with a few different details.

One of those details is a bunch of little dentil blocks.

                                                                                           Here is the base for the female.
                                                                                 We went with an Ionic style capital and column.

                                                                           I love the detail in the capitals from Decorator Supply.

                                                                   The male base has fluted Doric columns like the Altar base.

 

There is only one problem the sculptures got reversed when the movers placed them.

 I think we can sort that out easy enough!
